ABSTRACT: Chemistry professors today are becoming more and more environmentally conscious, which requires them to institute a different perspective regarding teaching chemistry and its applications in academia and industry worldwide. The goals of this special course are developed in this presentation and include: 1. Helping students with different educational backgrounds in chemistry get involved in discussions dealing with the impact of green chemistry on the environment and the human race, 2. Using real-world examples to illustrate how creative thinking and problem solving can yield tangible effects in academia and in industry, directly relating to their everyday lives, 3. Expressing to the students that an open mind will stimulate them to look at sustainable development, locally and globally, 4. Gaining general academic development in writing and oral presentation skills while working on a green chemistry topic.
